This page shows the retail selling price of petrol and diesel in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. Each figure is the price of one litre. Retail selling prices as notified by oil marketing companies. The date on the cards, 30 October 2026, is the day those prices apply.
Indicative; may vary slightly by fuel station. Two pumps in the same city can differ by a small amount. Read this page as the day’s notified price, then read the board at the pump before you pay.
The four cities
On 30 October 2026, petrol is ₹102.12 a litre in Delhi, ₹111.21 in Mumbai, ₹113.51 in Kolkata and ₹107.77 in Chennai. Diesel is ₹95.20 in Delhi, ₹97.83 in Mumbai, ₹99.82 in Kolkata and ₹99.55 in Chennai.
Delhi has the lowest petrol price of these four. Kolkata has the highest petrol price. Delhi has the lowest diesel price, and Kolkata has the highest. The fuel is not a different product. The gap comes from the state parts of the price.
These prices are unchanged from 29 October 2026. A day with no change is still worth a date. The date tells you the figure was checked, not that the price moved.
What makes up the price
Four things sit inside a litre. The base price is the cost of the fuel before tax and before the pump’s commission. Central excise is a tax set for the whole country. State VAT is a tax set by the state, so the same litre can cost more in one city than another. Dealer commission is the pump’s margin.
The rupee breakup is for Delhi, from 1 August 2026. For petrol, the price charged to dealers is ₹81.12 a litre. Central excise is included in that figure. The breakup does not list excise on its own line. Dealer commission averages ₹4.41. State VAT, including VAT on that commission, is ₹16.59. The retail selling price is ₹102.12.
For diesel in Delhi, the price charged to dealers is ₹78.30 a litre, again with central excise inside it. Dealer commission averages ₹2.99. State VAT is ₹13.91. The retail selling price is ₹95.20.
Those Delhi lines add up to the retail price. Nothing else is added on this page. The dealer commission is an average, so one pump’s margin can sit a little above or below the line.
Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai are shown as the retail price only. The same four parts apply there: base price, central excise, state VAT and dealer commission. A higher retail price usually means a higher state VAT. Central excise is a national tax, so it is not what separates these cities.
How to use the figure
Oil companies revise these prices in the morning. A price you saw yesterday can still be today’s price. Check the date above the cards. If you are filling the tank, the pump’s own board is the price you pay.
A monthly fuel bill is the price per litre times the litres you buy. This page does not estimate kilometres or the car. To set that bill next to take-home pay, the in-hand salary calculator shows what lands in the account. It does not subtract fuel.
Gold and silver for the same day are on gold rate today and silver rate today. They are a different market. Do not read a fuel price as a metal price. Bank deposits and the policy rate are on FD interest rates and RBI policy rates.
The Finfod Research Desk checks the metro prices before they are published.
Questions
Why is petrol more expensive in Mumbai than in Delhi?
On 30 October 2026 petrol is ₹111.21 a litre in Mumbai and ₹102.12 in Delhi. Central excise is a national tax and sits inside the price charged to dealers. The gap between the cities comes from the state parts of the price, including VAT. Mumbai is shown here as the retail price only.
Does the Delhi price include central excise?
Yes. For Delhi, from 1 August 2026, central excise is included in the price charged to dealers: ₹81.12 a litre for petrol and ₹78.30 for diesel. The breakup does not print excise as its own line, so this page does not give a separate excise figure. Dealer commission and state VAT are added after that.
Will every fuel station charge this price?
Not always. Indicative; may vary slightly by fuel station. The cards are the notified retail price for the city. The board at the pump is the price you pay. Ask for a bill if the board and the receipt do not match.
Why is there no tax breakup for Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai?
The breakup on this page is for Delhi. Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai are the retail price of one litre. The same parts apply: base price, central excise, state VAT and dealer commission. Those cities do not have a line for each part here.
How often is this page updated?
The prices are checked for the day they apply to. This set is for 30 October 2026. A day with no change still gets that date. If a newer day has not been checked, the date on the page stays on the last day that was.
Is diesel taxed the same way as petrol?
The parts are the same: a price charged to dealers, which includes central excise, then dealer commission, then state VAT. The amounts differ. In Delhi, from 1 August 2026, diesel’s price to dealers is ₹78.30, commission averages ₹2.99, VAT is ₹13.91, and the retail price is ₹95.20.
