The page was last updated on 19 October 2026.
- The 5-to-10-year senior rate includes an extra 0.50 percentage points under SBI We-care.
- SBI Patrons adds 0.10 percentage points for a customer of 80 or older, over the senior rate. That extra is not in the senior column, and it is not for a recurring deposit, Green Rupee, tax-saving deposit, MODS, Capgain, or a non-callable deposit.
- Amrit Vrishti (444 days) is 6.45% from 15 December 2025. The page says senior citizens get their additional benefit. It does not print a separate senior number, so that scheme is not in the table.
- Non-callable retail deposits from ₹1,00,01,000 to below ₹3 crore, w.e.f. 19 October 2026, are a different card (1 year 6.40% / 6.90%, 2 years 6.60% / 7.10%). They are not in this table.
How these rates are read
A fixed deposit rate on this page is the card rate for a retail deposit below ₹3 crore. It is the rate the bank prints for a new deposit, or a renewal, in that tenure bucket. Staff rates sit on a different card. So do deposits of ₹3 crore and above.
The general column is for a resident customer under 60. The senior column is for a resident who is 60 or older. Several banks do not give the senior rate to an NRI. Read the note under the bank before you treat the higher number as yours.
How the rate is worked out
The card rate is a percent a year. On a deposit of about six months or longer, banks usually compound interest every quarter. On a very short deposit, many banks pay simple interest. Kotak says so for a tenure below 181 days. This page does not turn the card into a maturity amount. A monthly payout is often a little lower than the cumulative rate. Use the FD calculator and type the row that matches your tenure.
The calculator starts at 6.25%. That is SBI’s general rate for 1 year to less than 2 years, below ₹3 crore, in force from 15 December 2025. It is the one-year general cell for State Bank of India here.
What moves the rate
The tenure bucket matters more than a headline. A one-year rate and a five-year rate on the same card can move in different directions. Sort the table by the year you actually need the money.
Once the amount crosses ₹3 crore, the bank prints a separate card. Those rates are left off this page. A branch quote for a very large deposit can also differ from the card.
A senior extra is not one national number. Kotak prints one column and adds 0.50 percentage points for a resident senior citizen. SBI’s five-to-ten-year senior rate includes a further 0.50 percentage points under its We-care scheme. Canara pays the same rate to everyone on deposits up to 179 days. Bank of Baroda’s senior column already includes its extra. Add an extra only when you are looking at the general column.
A 444-day or 555-day scheme can sit above the ordinary bucket. It is the comparison rate for one, two, three or five years only when that exact year falls inside the bucket.
Tax on the interest
Interest on a bank fixed deposit is taxable. A bank may deduct tax at source at 10% under Section 393 (this was section 194A) when the interest it credits in a tax year crosses ₹50,000, or ₹1,00,000 if you are 60 or older. That is a collection. The final tax depends on your slab and on Section 202.
Section 153 (this was section 80TTA) covers up to ₹10,000 of savings-account interest for a person under 60. FD interest stays outside it. A senior citizen outside Section 202 can deduct up to ₹50,000 of interest, and that basket can include an FD. Read TDS for the collection rule.
How to use the table
Pick general or senior, then sort by the year you need. The sort uses the bucket that contains that exact year. Closing early usually earns the shorter-period rate, minus a penalty the bank sets. A ladder, with one deposit due each year, keeps some money free.
Before a five-year booking, compare the post office time deposit on the small savings rates page. That rate is one national figure for the quarter. A bank rate is one bank’s card.
The figures were checked on 29 October 2026. Treat the table as those published cards. Your branch can still run a short special window. Confirm the figure on the bank’s own page, and on the receipt, before you book.
Questions
Which bank has the highest FD rate?
It depends on the tenure you sort by. A bank can lead at one year and sit lower at five years. Use the sort on this page for the year you need, and then open that bank’s rate page. A higher five-year rate does not help if the money is needed in a year.
Do I automatically get the senior citizen rate?
The senior column is for a resident who is 60 or older. Banks usually want age proof, and the senior customer is often the first holder. Several banks on this page do not give the senior rate to an NRI. Kotak’s page adds 0.50 percentage points to the printed rate. Other banks already print the senior number.
Why is a deposit above ₹3 crore missing?
Banks print a separate card once the deposit is ₹3 crore or more. Those rates are left off this page. Ask the branch, or open the bank’s bulk card, for that amount. A rate you saw in a news story for a large deposit is a different product.
Is FD interest tax-free?
No. The interest is taxable. A bank may deduct tax at source under Section 393 when the interest it credits crosses ₹50,000, or ₹1,00,000 if you are 60 or older. That deduction is not the final tax. PPF and Sukanya Samriddhi are the small-savings products this site treats as excluded from total income. A bank FD is not in that group.
How fresh are these FD rates?
The pages were checked on 29 October 2026. Each bank also has its own card date. SBI’s retail card in this table is from 15 December 2025. ICICI Bank and Axis Bank revised cards on 29 October 2026. Kotak’s card is from 28 October 2026. A card date and a check date are both printed so you can see which is which.
